Bassie: My Journey of Hope [Giveaway]

“Not everybody can be famous but everybody can be great because greatness is determined by service… You only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love.” – Basetsana Kumalo

Bassie Kumalo is the ultimate powerhouse and inspiration to mums everywhere.

She made her start in beauty pageants at age 16 when she won both Miss Soweto and Miss Black South Africa in the same year. She then went on to win Miss South Africa and was the first runner up in the Miss World competition at only age 20.

Following her pageant days, she gave birth to three children that changed her perspective entirely (as they often do).

She decided to dedicate herself to improving the lives of less fortunate children through her prolific philanthropic work. She and her husband, Romeo, founded the Romeo and Basetsana Kumalo Family Foundation.

This organization is dedicated to supporting orphaned children who have tragically lost their parents to H.I.V and AIDS.

She has also been involved with foundations such as LoveLife, Agang Sechaba, Life College, and Unicef.

Bassie doesn’t only have a generous spirit and a pretty face – she also has an incredible mind for business. She became the presenter of the popular TV show Top Billing and produced it under her own production company, Tswelopele Productions. Tswelopele eventually landed her in the position of the youngest black female director to be part of mainstream business in South Africa.

That’s not her only business endeavor – she owns three other companies!

The Connect Channel is a digital content and television production company, while Basetsana Woman Investment Holdings Pty Ltd is a 100% black female-owned company that focuses on resources, property, media, telecommunications, and IT.

She also owns a travel agency with her sister Johanna called Travel With Flair.

Bassie has truly done it all and you can read all about her story in her autobiography Bassie: My Journey of Hope.

About the book (*Taken from here)

In Bassie – My Journey of Hope, Bassie recounts her life journey, including her relationships with mentors like Nelson Mandela. She also shares the secrets of her success and all the lessons she’s learnt along the way. She opens up about the pressures of her high-profile marriage to Romeo Kumalo and their heartbreaking struggle to have a family. She talks honestly about motherhood and maintaining a healthy work/life balance, and unpacks how she pays it forward through mentoring young people she has met along the way.

Bassie also describes the legal battles she has had to wage in order to protect her name and her brand over the years. She gives a chilling account of the stalker who has harassed her for decades, and the spurious ‘sex-tape’ allegation that rocked her family and almost destroyed her career.

Bassie’s enthusiasm, humour and hope infuses every page of her memoir, making it an intimate, inspiring and entertaining account of a remarkable life.

We need to start seeing the life through someone else’s life as when we just keep focused on what we want we lose track of the things we need.. we need to start putting us first and stand up for ourselves.

    We are also important

Bassie is a very powerful woman in all areas of her life, very intelligent and gifted in so many ways. As a working mother and wife, with business interests, I will definitely wish to have her book to learn more from her, the challenges and the victories she saw after holding on and telling herself that no matter what, she will go out and get whatever she determined to get as mother, wife and a business woman. Very encouraging indeed.

Sometimes a bit of inspiration from someone else is all we need to make a change in our lives. Take a different view on life. It is said when things are not going right step back and take a look from the outside. It would be a good book to read.

Bassie… the beauty and the brains. We always face difficult situations and somehow we think people of their caliber don’t face challenges. To know that she faced some of our challenges, that on its own makes you wanna fight and know you are not alone in these struggles

Basetsana Kumalo has always been one of those inspirational women I followed through the years. I read about this book and immediately knew it was going to be a page turner. I think the inspiration, hope and motivation she shares is something that so many women need to hear about and I for one often look to inspirational women such as her for that much needed push in the right direction – stories of hope is like chicken soup for the soul.
