It is Literally Impossible to be a Woman

Moms if you have not watched the Barbie movie yet we hope you find time to – because it is the unexpected movie we all need to watch, as women, especially if you are raising a daughter.

What seems like a fun, pink and playful movie actually ended up being the reminder we never knew we needed.

As women, most of us put so much pressure on ourselves to ‘tick all the boxes’ and to please everyone , and to be everything for everyone – except for ourselves.

Watch the powerful scene below by America Ferrera, and scroll down to read it in full.

It is literally impossible to be a woman

It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don’t think you’re good enough.

Like, we have to always be extraordinary, but somehow we’re always doing it wrong.

You have to be thin, but not too thin. And you can never say you want to be thin. You have to say you want to be healthy, but also you have to be thin.

You have to have money, but you can’t ask for money because that’s crass.

You have to be a boss, but you can’t be mean. You have to lead, but you can’t squash other people’s ideas.

You’re supposed to love being a mother, but don’t talk about your kids all the damn time.

You have to be a career woman but also always be looking out for other people.

You have to answer for men’s bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you’re accused of complaining.

You’re supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you’re supposed to be a part of the sisterhood.

But always stand out and always be grateful.

But never forget that the system is rigged. So find a way to acknowledge that but also always be grateful.

You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line.

It’s too hard! It’s too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you!

And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.

I’m just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us.

And if all of that is also true for a doll just representing women, then I don’t even know.

        Being a mom is awesome
At the very same time many challenges
Taking care of everyone in the house making sure everything is ok
        Fanancial it can be draining
At the end of the day it is what it is

Being a mum is challenging most of the times we lose ourselves on the journey because we are so hard on ourselves and the world’s expectation doesn’t make it any better.

As a mother of 3 daughters. I Totally agree…powerful words , I can definitely relate, but yes we have to keep our heads up high and do our best to be a good model for our daughters.

Totally agree. What got me was; you have to have money but you can’t ask for money and you have to be a career woman but also be looking out for others.
I can relate to that, and the fact that I am tired of having to juggle it all and still have a smile on my face everyday.

This part got me: “You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line.
It’s too hard! It’s too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you! ”

Being a woman, daughter, wife, mom, worker etc, is ALOT. My motivation and what keeps me going is my faith in God, I am not focusing on what is seen but what is unseen. Being a mother helps me every single day. I am not just doing life for me but for my children and their children. I am building a legacy. As a young widow and sole parent, I’ve been given strength that endure so much now. With God by your side you can do anything. In your own strength you cant, but with God’s you can do the impossible. Give life what you’re made of and never ever give up. God is not giving up on you, so dont give up on yourself. This is my testimony to inspire all women. You got this!

When I saw the trailer of this movie I thought that it was quite ridiculous and went to watch it with this in mind. I mean who doesn’t need a bit of ridiculous in their life right now?! To say that I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. Incredibly thought provoking and entertaining at the same time. Loved it!
