Simple Ways To Drink More Water

Our bodies are made up of about 70% water, and therefore it is vital that we drink enough of it to keep healthy.

Water plays a major role in our bodies, including maintaining electrolyte balance, blood pressure, lubricating joints, regulating body temperature, and promoting cell health.

We all know how important it is to stay hydrated, yet we often forget. Here are some simple ways to help you drink more water.

Understand your fluid needs.

Before you start downing water you need to first understand your body’s fluid needs. The average daily recommendation of water per day is a minimum of 8 glasses.

But you need to remember that this is all dependent on one’s activity levels and general health. For most people simply drinking to quench their thirst is enough but if you exercise often, work outside or live in a hot climate your body will require a lot more water than only drinking when you think you are thirsty.

Set a daily goal

Setting a daily goal can help you drink more water. This can be motivating and is more likely to get you into the habit of drinking water more often.

Keep a reusable water bottle

If you always have a water bottle on you, you can easily drink water wherever you are, whether that be running errands or sitting at your desk. This also serves as a visual reminder to drink more water. Plus by using a reusable water bottle you are helping out the environment, instead of relying on a single-use plastic water bottle every time you are thirsty.

Replace other drinks with water

One way to drink more water is to replace other drinks with water. These drinks are often full of added sugars which can lead to weight gain, therefore replacing them with water is an easy and cheap way to cut calories.

Drink a glass before a meal

Make it a habit that before you eat a meal to drink a glass of water. By doing so you are adding additional cups of water to your daily water intake. This won’t only keep you hydrated but you may feel that you will eat less due to the water leaving you feeling fuller.

Drink one glass of water per hour at work

If you work a standard 8 hour day, drinking a glass of water each hour will help you meet your daily water intake requirement. This method will keep your water intake consistent and help you reach your water goals.

Eat water-rich foods

A simple way to consume more water is by eating foods that hold a high water content. Water-rich foods are also packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that will aid your overall health.

Add some healthy flavor

If you are not a fan of how water “tastes” then why not add some natural healthy flavors? Try mint, lemon, cucumber, or even an orange slice. This will give the water a subtle taste to help you drink more.

Mums, do you drink enough water in the day? Do you have any other tips that help you drink more water?

Thank you for reminding us as mothers to drink water more often. Sometimes we tend to replace water with drinks but from now onwards will drink a lot of water even before meals.

I like the idea of drinking one glass per hour at work, because many times the bottle of water would be ignored at my desk, simply because I get so busy and completely forget to drink! Having an hourly reminder to drink water is a great idea!
