Organise Your Life [March Newsletter]

Another month down in 2021 – mums were not sure about you but we’re struggling to get into a routine and get organised after the longest school holidays ever!

This month if you’re in the same boat as us we want to help you (and ourselves) to get more organised and in a routine.

See our below 5 steps to master your morning mum routine:

  1. Prepare the night before. This may vary a bit depending on if you are a morning person or a night owl, but if you function better at night, try to get as many of those little tasks out of the way as possible – making lunches, packing items needed for the next day, filling out school paperwork, etc. A little preparation goes a long way and it means a little extra wiggle-room should any morning surprises come up. If you’re completely exhausted, just rinse any dishes, wipe down your sink, and pick up ten things off the lounge room floor… before at last falling into bed!
  2. Get enough sleep. Obviously, it will be much easier to get up in the morning if you are regularly getting the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep per night. We’re not sure about you but we don’t function well {and definitely have no patience!} when we’re overtired.
  3. Wake up before your kids. Waking up 30 minutes (or one hour if you can) before your kids gives you a head-start on your day. This allows you to get all of your own personal care routine completed – showered, dressed, hair done, teeth brushed, etc. Yes this can be harder when you have little ones, and yes in the case of early risers, you may need to change a diaper and set them up with a snack or toy first, but try to get to your own care routine as soon as possible.
  4. Write a checklist. Create a checklist for you and one for the kids to complete too, that clearly shows each of your responsibilities. Stick your lists on the fridge and work your way through it each morning and afternoon e.g. make the bed, eat breakfast, brush teeth. If your kids are still too little to read, a list with pictures works well too. A checklist likes this prevents that feeling of overwhelm, and keeps you all focused on getting chores out of the way before it’s time to play. Write your plan down. There will likely be days that you don’t get everything done or you need to switch things up for one reason or another, but it gives you a good basic plan to start with.
  5. Stick to it. Creating a more organised home take time and some discipline to implement these new strategies. Change is always hard as you adjust to doing something new, but once these habits become part of your every day, you’ll quickly wonder how you ever managed without them!

Today I woke up an hour before my toddler, I managed to clean her play area and my office space, prepared breakfast and did a 10 minutes abs workout. Feel so refreshed.
