The Unicorn baby session 1 and 2. An honest chat about the most mythical and elusive of beasts: the perfect baby. With author and OT Roxanne Atkinson.
In our first and second Insta Live Chats we caught up with acclaimed Occupational Therapist, fellow-mom and author, Roxanne Atkinson. Read below to see if are one of our winners who commented during the chat last night.
In her new book, “The Unicorn Baby”, Roxanne takes her years of clinical experience, combined with cutting-edge scientific research, to debunk some of the biggest (and most dangerous) myths surrounding the first year of life.
What’s a unicorn baby you ask?
If you’ve ever read a few baby books or searched the Internet for parenting tips you’ve stumbled across the mythical Unicorn Baby. This is the baby who feeds every four hours and sleeps through the night, sits at six months, pees pure gold, and poops rainbows.
In our first chat below we talk about our own experiences as moms, and look at two of these myths, in particular:
- That technology is always a good thing, and
- That babies are all the same.

The Unicorn baby session 2 – In this second session with Roxi, she answers all your questions (sent through over the prior week). Questions like…
- Screentime… when can my baby safely start watching from, what can they watch, and for how long?
- Sleeping… when can I expect my baby to sleep through? Any tips?
- Vomiting… when our kids are small, how can you tell what’s normal or what could be reflux?
- Fussy Eaters… any tips to get tots eating everything?
- Working moms… any advice for moms who have to share the caregiving with others?

I wish I had a guide like this when I had my son. It is very daunting being a first time mom and you not sure who’s advice to take because everyone gives their take on how things should be done. This definitely a lovely gift for parents to be will keep it in mind. Thanks for the video chat I missed the actual live one but went to watch it after. Kind Regards “The Stewarts:
