Your Body Vs Social Media

Yes yes yes – we are so thankful that women are starting to lift the curtains on how fake some social media posts are.

Why? Because we have to stop comparing ourselves to other women and making ourselves feel unworthy just because we do not look a certain way.

We are comparing ourselves to something that is not even real!

Different poses and clothing can drastically change the appearance of someone’s body in a photo.

4 women show us how deceiving can a social media body post be:

Bree Lenehan.

Bree decided to post her own side-by-side comparison photos to show how unrealistic some Instagram photos are. Whether it be the clothes or the poses, various “influencers” are trying to portray a “perfect” body online.

“Just a friendly reminder not to compare yourself to others. Photos on social media are peoples favourite photo out of hundreds. But if you see them in real-time, you’d more likely see a different version. That’s because bodies move. They’re not always firm and toned-looking. They fluctuate, wobble, expand and look different under different lighting, poses, and angles!!”  Image source:  breeelenehan

Hayley Madigan.
Hayley who works as a fitness trainer, regularly shows her followers just how easy it is to use lighting, angles, and editing to make pictures – particularly bikini photos – look entirely different.
“Remember images you see online can be easily manipulated through posing and can be ‘faked’ to look better – Especially in the fitness industry, this happens often. Naturally, we don’t walk around pushing our glutes out and arching our backs – because, well it’s painful for one, and not real life!Image source: @hayleymadiganfitness

“It’s easy to hide what you don’t like about yourself in a single photo by changing your angles and poses. Don’t compare yourself to the people you see online! So many people on social media edit, highlight, and hide their insecurities.  That doesn’t mean they don’t have them!! They’re just better at hiding them.” Image source: @fit.w.jai
Danae Mercer
Danae is a health journalist who is on a quest to expose the ‘perfect’ photos we often see on Instagram for what they really are.”Cellulite isn’t something to be ashamed of. Yet we are told and taught and whispered and instructed that it is a bad thing. Enough. I’ve had enough. If you have wiggles and jiggles and nice body dimples, do NOT stress. Most of all, do NOT punish your body. Cellulite is so normal and so common.”  Image source: @danaemercer

Mums – do you edit, pose or use lighting in your social media photos because you think it makes your body look “better” ?

If yes – do you see how you are unknowingly making other women feel imperfect?

Please can we all rather focus on our smiles, not our rolls, stretch marks, or cellulite – because most of us have these – and we need to stop pretending otherwise.

“Every time a woman shows she’s comfortable in her own skin, she inspires another woman to be comfortable in hers”

Mums, have you compared yourself to other women’s body posts on social media?

This is so true. We always look at how good someone looks and compare ourselves not know how much effort someone goes to looking “perfect ” on social media . Lighting, poses , clothing are huge factors in taking pics and can be seen so different in pics compared to reality.

Wow yeah makes realise we all have something about our bodies we dont like. But in the end we are all beautiful and we must not let people on social media tell us otherwise

Nope. I am who I am. You either love me or leave me. I rather have a beautiful heart than a perfect body. I’m 54, I have my cellulite and rolls like everybody else. But I do have a good heart. I dnt mean it in a bad way, And with clothes on, I’m a size 34/36. So I’m comfortable in my body. It’s not about how many rolls or how much cellulite a person has its their personality. And if they feel comfortable in their skin.
